The Triskele of the North

The Triskele of the North
‘The Triskele of the North’ is an ancient triple-spiral symbol associated with the Celtic goddess traditions of Britannia and Brigantia, embodying sovereignty, protection, movement, and the living power of the land.
Found throughout Celtic and pre-Christian Britain, the three-armed spiral reflected the sacred cycles of nature and the interconnected realms of earth, sea, and sky.
As goddess traditions evolved from the ancient Near East into the Celtic world, the triskele became a distinctly northern expression of divine feminine power — more earthbound, elemental, and rooted within the rugged landscapes of the British Isles. For the Brigantes tribes of Northern Britain, symbols of spiralling motion represented continuity, transformation, and the eternal flow of life through birth, death, and renewal.
In contemporary symbolic interpretation, the Triskele of the North can also be understood as representing inner evolution, cyclical transformation, ancestral memory, and the sacred movement between body, spirit, and nature. Through its perpetual motion, the symbol evokes resilience, grounded sovereignty, and the enduring rhythm of the living earth.
