The Circle of Eight

The Circle of Eight
‘The Circle of Eight’ or eight-spoked wheel, is an ancient symbol representing the sacred cycles of time, nature, and seasonal renewal.
Within the Celtic traditions associated with Britannia and Brigantia, the symbol became linked to the Wheel of the Year — reflecting the changing seasons, agricultural rhythms, and the eternal movement of life through birth, death, and rebirth.
The eightfold design can also be understood as a northern evolution of the earlier eight-pointed star symbols associated with Inanna, Ishtar, and Venus, transforming celestial symbolism into a grounded expression of the living earth. As a sacred wheel, it embodied balance, continuity, protection, and the harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.
In contemporary symbolic interpretation, the Circle of Eight represents cyclical transformation, spiritual alignment with nature, and the integration of the inner and outer seasons of life. Through its circular motion and balanced geometry, the symbol evokes wholeness, renewal, ancestral wisdom, and the sacred flow of time.
