The Rosette of Ishtar

The Rosette of Ishtar
‘The Rosette of Ishtar’ is a stylised floral symbol representing the blooming vitality, fertility, and regenerative power of the goddess Ishtar.
Often depicted with eight petals to mirror her celestial star and connection to Venus, the rosette also appeared in twelve-petalled forms within ancient Mesopotamian jewellery and sacred art. This twelvefold design has come to symbolise cosmic completion and the cyclical movements of the heavens — reflecting the rhythms of time, nature, and spiritual renewal.
As a sacred emblem, the Rosette of Ishtar represented beauty, sovereignty, divine protection, and the eternal cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Worn as jewellery and used within temple symbolism, the rosette was believed to carry the goddess’s favour and protective power, embodying both earthly abundance and celestial wisdom.
In contemporary symbolic interpretation, the unfolding petals of the rosette can also be understood as representing the awakening of consciousness and the unfolding journey of the feminine soul through transformation and renewal. Through both its ancient origins and modern resonance, the Rosette of Ishtar continues to embody feminine creation, spiritual awakening, and the sacred cycles woven throughout nature and the cosmos.
Symbolism: Cosmic cycles, fertility, divine protection, sovereignty, renewal, feminine awakening, and sacred feminine power.
