Jenny Hampton - Age 46
When you came to the workshop what inspired you to come and take part?
I was feeling angry and hurt about how women’s rights and voice were being eroded and didn’t know what response to make. When Lisa created the I Am Woman workshop, it was such a positive, creative response to this distortion, I just loved it and felt moved to come.
What did you receive, get to understand or learn about yourself and your body from creating your art on the I Am Woman day?
It was such a profound experience. As I created each part, I felt myself sinking deeper and deeper into my body and energy opening up in each place. I felt the power of the life-force that runs through my body, and what’s contained in it - my life experience, what I want to see and what I don’t, what covers that pure flow of life. And the innate wisdom that my body has - it knows where I am at, it knows what phase of life I’m in and what is true.
What does it mean to you to have a female body in our modern day world?
It means not looking to the world to get a reflection or understanding of my experience because the world doesn’t recognise or honour being in a female body. It means discovering how to authentically live in the biological realities of woman’s body and not listening to what the world would say about that. It can be heartbreaking and incredibly vulnerable at times, and so deeply beautiful. I love being in this woman’s body and learning how to navigate the phases of womanhood. So grateful to have a reflection of that from Lisa and her incredible work.
How do you feel about your body today?
I love it! I feel so grateful it’s got me to 46 years on the earth and as I’m moving into perimenopause, I feel more and more called to love and care for it and give it the support it needs through this transition.
